June 21st....welcome summer! And, happy National Aboriginal Day!
To celebrate the beginning of summer and National Aboriginal Day, we will be reading "Claire and her Grandfather" and learning about the many important contributions First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples have made to Canada. Be sure to ask your child about the "3 Sisters"....!
Goodbye to Zeinab!
Today we had a 'farewell to Zeinab' party. It was a fun way to say goodbye to our dear friend. The children gave Zeinab cards and artwork and we shared a heart-shaped cake and M&Ms! Zeinab read the kids one of their favourite books ('Alphabet Mystery'), helped us sing a few songs and then gave the children some sweet treats. Thanks, Zeinab! We'll miss you!
LIBRARY BOOKS
Please check your child's agenda tonight as several students have library slips indicating overdue books. Please send in the books ASAP as Ms. Lynda is busy organizing the library for next fall! Thank you, Ms. Lynda!
CONCERT
Don't forget about this Thursday's Summer Concert a la Mme. Leduc and her various players! The SK's will not be performing, but we will be enjoying the show! It begins at 2pm.
FAMILY DAY
Please remember to return the BLUE FORM indicating whether you will be able to make it in for our Family Day this Friday. The students will sing a few songs and then share their portfolios with you. We'll also enjoy some tasty treats and celebrate all of our summer birthdays!
Happy birthday, Tariq! Tariq turned 6 today and proudly wore his crown and led our line! Bravo!
SUMMER BIRTHDAYS!
Adrienne--July 26
Abasiofon--August 8
Sabari--August 30
COMMUNITY BUILDINGS
Our collaborative community is beginning to grow! We now have a police station (with helicopter landing pad!) (Markus) and an animal hospital (Abbey)! Children are encouraged to tell us about their buildings, the materials they used, and to identify the 2-D shapes and 3-D figures they see. We are off to a great start and I look forward to seeing the rest!
This week, we continue investigating the new musical instruments, as well as listening and moving to music from around the world. We have also set up a new 'measurement station' with various measuring devices which children are encouraged to identify, explore, explain and use.
We will be discussing the changing of the season and what summer brings. We'll be reading some summer poems, learning some new chants and using our journals to record our responses.
Thank you for checking in and I hope to see you on Friday!
Warmly,
Ms.Cox
