Hello everyone,
I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weather over the weekend...finally!
Over the next few weeks we will be investigating 'our community', senses, summer and shapes, Father's Day, as well as reviewing some of the key concepts learned this year.
FIELD TRIP
This Friday, the Kinders will be walking to the TD Bank and Farmer's Pick to learn about these members of our community. We will be leaving shortly after 1pm and returning by 3pm. Regular drop-off and pick-up times will remain in effect. If you are able to volunteer please let me know ASAP. Permission forms will be sent home shortly.
ELOT TESTING
Tomorrow I will be conducting the board mandated ELOT (Early Literacy Observation Tool) with each student. This is an observation tool that assesses student's literacy skills. The testing takes about 20 minutes per child, is done one-on-one and is kept light and fun (stickers and treats when they finish!). It looks at letter recognition, book/print awareness, and phonological awareness. Reults are sent to the board. Ms. Leach will be teaching the class while I conduct the testing.
Rain Forest Feast
Thank you so much for sending in all of the delicious Rain Forest foods on Friday! The kids enjoyed all of the bananas, papyas, pineapples and chocolates. I think the highlight was cracking the coconut! The kids were thrilled with the hammering and the eventual cracking and tasting! A big thank you to Zeinab for guiding me through the process!
We have a few more Show and Share presentations from May to finish up and then depending on where we are on the calendar, we may or may not have a Show and Share for June. I'll keep you posted!
Please check in regularly this month, as there's a lot going on!
Warmly,
Ms.Cox
